The Fly Box

David Keene Fly Fisherman

This is the main working fly box that David Keene used on his 2007 trip to Labrador where Brook Trout to seven pounds, Lake Trout over 30 inches, 15 pound Northern Pike, and numerous White Fish were caught.

He states that the most successful flies for big Brook Trout and lakers were the Olive Wooley Buggers, Tan Clousers, size 8 Royal Wulffs, and the Conehead Muddlers. The size 14 Royal Wulffs worked on smaller brookies in the 14-16 inch range. The Clousers were also very productive for Northern Pike. The Deerhair Mouse is tied round in a kind of potato shape, without the sloping cone shaped nose to prevent it from diving on the retrieve.
