The Fly Box

The mystery, the art, the secrets hidden in the fly fisherman's box. Here resides valuable information to mentor others to the sport. We also have expert fly tiers who gather a couple of times a year to tie and tell stories. At our meetings, a collection of beautiful flies is given to a lucky winner whose name is drawn for the door prize.

This "Beauty in the Box" is a glimpse into one of Mark Gilbertson's collections. Mark is an avid Salmon fisher and will present at our next meeting his trips to the Pere Marquette river of Michigan. The flies shown here are his own creation, they follow no established pattern and have not yet been fished. This is an example of the creativity and art of the master tier. He plans to use them on his next trip and if indeed one proves to produce good results he will give it a name and then reproduce it in quantity, perhaps as gifts for other anglers to try. If others also find it to be a consistent producer then by word of mouth news of it will spread through the angling community and a new pattern will be born.
